Pointon heard Ory live in London in the 1950s, a never-to-be-forgotten contact with one of the founding fathers of jazz, whereas Alyn himself played in the 70s with many surviving members of Ory's bands, giving two unique and personal insights into this fascinating catalogue. Recent researches have shown that Ory was the first black bandleader to make commercial jazz records in 1921 - only four years after the white Original Dixieland Jazz Band - when he first cut his immortal classic "Ory's Creole Trombone".
